Oven settings icon rubbed off

Have you accidentally wiped off the markings on you oven fascia or lost you oven manual ? This can easily be done without any thought … you just went to clean your oven and then gone ! Half rubbed off symbols . No matter the brand Smeg, Blanco, Ilve , Chef, Westinghouse, Technika and more …

Above you can see all the basic symbols / icons and  markings on you oven fascia ? Each image shows you a small description for the control of your oven. You can refer to these images no matter what brand or model oven you have as they are a universal symbol’s for the control of the appliance.

Bellow is a full detailed description of each setting –

  1. Fan Forced Rear element – this will be your most used general setting for most dishes.
  2. Upper and lower element without fan forced function – This setting is used for slow rising temperate and doesn’t dry out the bake.
  3. Fan Forced upper and lower element – This is a supper heat setting as it uses three elements, Smeg , Blanco top end units have the additional setting.
  4. Fan and lower element – This is used for bottom base cooking e.g pizza base.
  5. Grill – Well need I say more – Melted cheese sandwiches.
  6. Grill with fan – Uses grill element good for topping crispness.
  7. Upper element – used to complete bake with heat coming from the top element / not to be confused with the grille element.
  8. Lower element – Used to finish base bake.
  9. Defrost – uses fan only and ambient temp. No heating.
  10. And lastly – Oven light.

Our team in Craigieburn attended an Oven repair call out this morning.

Craigieburn north of Melbourne is were out unit had an oven repair service on a Technika oven. The unit measures 700mm wide and has basic functions including grill control and fan forced fan electric oven control.

The oven wasn’t heating properly but was producing some heat.  After initial diagnosis we found one heating element to coming to temperature.

Our tech on site did an ohms reading and found the element had been installed previously. This was also confirmed buy the part number on the name plate of the element.

So after checking and testing all other parts and making sure the oven was safe to use we then installed the right part number element and tested the unit.

Using a thermometer to bring up the temp this then confirmed all was working fine.

On Friday 28th morning our team attended Smeg fan forced oven motor replacement in Altona 3018… just 13 km south-west of Melbourne. The customer has explained there is a noise coming from the oven when is use. It seem to get louder as the oven had been heating up to temp.

The oven was a Smeg SA708X-7 wall oven. What was discovered when testing the oven through the different setting we found the fan forced fan motor shaft had become loose and then move to far forward. This then pushed the blade against the fan cover and hitting it. 

Our local oven repair team in Alton didn’t have the right part on site. We then arrange pick up in half hour to our local depo and returned to install a new fan forced fan motor kit . The Smeg is now in good repair and working properly at full temperature.

Its always advised not to use you oven when in not in good working order until you have a specialist diagnose the issue. This will prevent further damage to the oven and then so will the cost to repair.

Who installs range hoods ?

Some consumers are not completely sure who installs range hoods or witch trades can install a range hood today.

Rangehoods are normally installed in kitchens and becoming popular installed out side entertaining area’s. 

Well the answer to that is anyone can install rangehoods …………. BUT and there is always a …..But. Its not as easy as it seems. As a matter of fact if you get it wrong it will cost you dearly.

So looking for the right trade or person is imperative … getting as many quotes as possible is important.  The more transparent the company or trade the less there willing to hide and provide a quality transparent  service.

Most importantly you really need to be comfortable with the choice of installer. The reason is not all installations will go to plan and there will be complications .

There are some situations that cannot be foreseen before installation and improvisation,  compromise will be needed to solve the issue and this will only be easy and smooth if you choose the right installer.  That you can get along with and feel comfortable with asking any install questions .

I personally don’t like trusting recommendations as they don’t always work for everyone as most people have there own expectations on how the instillation is carried out.

So remember to try and choose who your most comfortable with .

Our chef oven team at Northern Suburbs Melbourne United Electrical recently repaired and installed a oven fan forced fan motor kit  in Tullamarine not far from a call out from Strathmore Heights.

The diagnosis on the problem is there seem to not be enough heat coming from the oven . On closer inspection the fan seemed to make a humming noise. One taken out and tested the electrical test confirmed the fan motor has seized.

Our customer was happy with the timely finish of the fan repair as they needed to get baking again with a school home cooking project.

One of the most important parts to this chef oven is the fan forced setting. This helps distribute the hot air around the oven for a more efficient cooking time.

Not to far From Coburg our oven repair team attended an Ilve oven door repair not closing properly. There seemed to be a small gap showing on the fist inspection. As there a number of reasons why a oven door will not close properly or leave a gap. On this Ilve oven it turned out to be both oven door hinges that needed replacing.

As you can see in the above slider the first image show the oven door not closing. The second image shows the oven door repaired and closing shut.

The new Ilve oven door hinges are now sealing the door closed and not allowing any air to escape. It;s important not to have air escaping from the oven as it will take longer to come to temperature and therefore use more energy.

Looking for Smeg oven door repairs in Maribyrnong…. A Smeg oven door has shattered and needs replacing. The glass is the outer  glass has shattered due to the oven door not sitting properly and as the door has opened the edge has clipped the oven frame and shattered.

As you can see with the image the door will need to be removed from the oven itself and then the door pulled apart. We have ordered an new oven glass door for installation in about 4 days.

Do you need a rangehood installed in Brunswick, We were contacted to provide a quote to install a range hood in a kitchen area in Brunswick. There has never been a range hood their before , only an exhaust fan on the ceiling. All that was there is a plain wall.

Organizing a rang hood to be installed on a wall when you don’t have one already. There are many way’s to install a range hood but this will depend on the installation and whether you have cabinets or not. Looking at your wall you will also need to consider the wall itself. The structure of the wall , plaster, brick, tile ,glass.

Smoke coming from Blanco bms604 oven … was the call we had. So on attending the service visit at Yarraville 3013 the oven had smoke coming out and then eventually trip the circuit breaker. As you can can see in the image below . The oven selector switch has melted and damaged the wiring.

So our qualified tech then disconnected the circuit from the main power to make the appliance safe. We will then provide a quote to repair or replace the oven.
